Church (People) Hurt – Revisited

What if I have hurt someone?

  • Take responsibility for it and seek forgiveness – Matthew 5:23-24

“Therefore if you bring your gift to the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar, and go. First be reconciled to your brother and then come and offer your gift.”
  • Make amends – Luke 19:8-9

“But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, “Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount. Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house…”

What if they won’t forgive me or allow me to make amends?

  • Do your part and leave the rest to God. You are only responsible for your actions; not theirs. Seek reconciliation and if refused, leave them to God. Don’t keep bothering them. – Romans 12:18

“If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.”
  • Pray for them – Philippians 4:6-7

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

  • Forgive them for not forgiving you – Ephesians 4:32

“Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”
